First Steps

So, what ever made me want to become a lorry driver? Well, I had been combining the full time role of being a wife and mother with the full time job of Sales Rep for the previous 9 years and my only son was 15 yrs old and had just left school and I think I had an identity crisis. It was March 1981 and I looked at myself and didn't like the person I was being turned into in my career and as I'd always been up for a challenge and a bit of a rebel, I decided to take a weeks course and take my Class 1 licence. At that stage I had no intentions of using it but just to achieve it. However as soon as I had that pass certificate in my hand the temptation was too much for me and on my way home from Leicester after the test I called into an Agency and avoided a few pertinent questions about experience etc, and I was asked to work the following day for National Carriers on a flat trailer.
